The Mobile Mechanic role supports Nucor's mobile maintenance strategy by diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of gasoline and diesel powered mobile and stationary equipment. The position requires a safety‑mindset, work in inclement weather, rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays, and strives to deliver world‑class reliability for customers.
Safety is paramount at Nucor; candidates must be able to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Minimum qualifications include at least three years of experience in mobile equipment or locomotive maintenance and repair, the ability to read equipment prints and schematics, and proven skills in diagnosing and repairing hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
Preferred qualifications include knowledge of DC motor and generator fundamentals, ownership of one’s work, technical schooling or machine‑shop experience, extensive mobile hydraulics and electrical expertise, welding and cutting skills, familiarity with computers and diagnostic tools, and prior operation of equipment such as forklifts, man lifts, and cranes.
