The Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports execution of assigned federal construction projects within QGS’s Acquire–Comply–Execute lifecycle. Reporting to a Project Manager and Program Manager, the APM coordinates safety, quality, cost, schedule, and compliance activities, partnering with functional teams such as Safety/Quality, Finance, HR, Supply Chain, Cyber/IT, and Compliance to maintain accurate, audit‑ready project controls and documentation while preparing for future Project Manager responsibilities.
- Support Project Manager across Acquire–Comply–Execute stages.
- Coordinate Integrated Project Teams (Operations, Safety/Quality, Finance, Supply Chain).
- Participate in project meetings, track actions, and prepare documentation.
- Compile artifacts for stage‑gate reviews and maintain auditable records.
- Facilitate communication among internal teams, subcontractors, vendors, and partners.
- Prepare client‑facing materials and meeting agendas.
- Track subcontractor deliverables, RFIs, and submittals.
- Assist with monthly forecasting, cost tracking, trend logs, and variance analysis.
- Ensure cost documentation complies with DCAA audit requirements.
- Identify and escalate schedule risks for mitigation planning.
- Support compliance with FAR/DFARS, DCAA, CUI protection, and ISO 9001.
- Maintain site‑specific plans (APP/JHAs, Environmental Plans, QCPs).
- Manage risk and opportunity logs, action items, and closeout activities.
- Prepare weekly progress reports, look‑ahead schedules, risk logs, and performance metrics (CPI, SPI).
- Upload and version‑control project documentation in the QGS OPS Platform.
- Develop project management competencies toward a Project Manager role.
- Participate in training, certifications, and mentoring opportunities.

The role is classified as non‑exempt and is based in the western United States (California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado). Travel is required up to 50 % of the time, including overnight stays.
- 2–4 years supporting federal or commercial construction projects (preferred $1M+ projects).
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- PMP or CAPM preferred; PMP required within a defined period; OSHA 30 preferred (support provided).
- Familiarity with FAR/DFARS, DCAA, and basic federal construction compliance concepts.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work in a matrixed, fast‑paced federal contracting environment.
- Primarily stationary; occasional pushing/pulling, climbing, kneeling, bending; lift 10‑30 lbs; vision 20/20 corrected; hearing for vehicle operation.
- Rare exposure to wet/humid conditions, moving parts, heavy machinery, heights, fumes, chemicals, outdoor weather, electricity; seldom loud noise >87 dB.
