The Account Manager ensures that service delivery meets contractual terms and conditions while exceeding client expectations, and guarantees the availability of critical systems to minimize business risk. They also ensure all maintenance work complies with client and company policies and health and safety legislation.
Key duties involve managing client relationships, overseeing subcontractor performance, meeting KPI and SLA targets, and delivering accurate financial and performance reports. The role leads engineering teams, drives continuous improvement, and serves as the primary 24/7 escalation point for client issues.
- Maintain consistently high client satisfaction to grow contract portfolio.
- Handle day‑to‑day enquiries from BGIS teams, subcontractors, and clients.
- Achieve and exceed contractual P&L targets; present contract performance monthly.
- Keep subcontractor documentation current and compliant.
- Meet all contract‑specified KPI and SLA requirements.
- Produce timely monthly performance reports and identify budget variances.
- Attend regular strategic meetings with the client.
- Coordinate non‑critical and technical subcontractor visits.
- Source pricing and delivery schedules from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Ensure equipment is maintained to the highest standard.
- Collaborate with the Account Manager on HR and disciplinary matters.
- Complete reactive and PPM work orders on schedule, meeting KPIs/SLA.
- Deliver required Health & Safety compliance and complete statutory reporting.
- Generate financial and statistical reports for the contract portfolio.
- Conduct regular performance reviews of subcontractors and hold meetings with their managers.
- Develop and implement training plans for engineering staff.
- Identify, quote, and execute extra works to meet P&L goals.
- Deploy company processes and systems correctly on site.
- Manage engineering teams: performance, recruitment, development, appraisals, succession planning, and welfare.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and support to contract managers and engineering teams.
- Present contractual and financial information in boardroom‑style presentations.
- Maintain staffing levels that balance cost reduction with service excellence and support workload fluctuations.
- Ensure a customer‑focused approach across all operational activities and sustain key client relationships.
- Create a learning environment with training and development planning to build employee competence and potential.
- Assist with inductions of new site staff.
- Promote and uphold BGIS core values.
- Develop a strong succession plan for critical roles.
- Provide coverage for contract managers and manage their holiday schedules.
- Act as line manager for Contract Managers.
- Keep the Service Director informed of all issues.
- Serve as 24/7 escalation point for client incidents, ensuring continuous updates and incident management.
- Promote safety procedures and policies consistently.
- Maintain diligence in safe working for self and building occupants.
- Execute planned preventative maintenance regimes.
- Install electrical services and diagnose electrical circuit faults.

The position requires HNC/BTEC/Degree level education, strong written and spoken English, and solid mathematical skills.
Candidates should possess recognized technical qualifications, extensive knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering, preventive maintenance, BMS, HVAC, high‑voltage systems, and contract management, as well as familiarity with safety procedures, COSHH, risk assessments, and relevant certifications such as C&G 17th Edition BSI and HV qualifications.
- Hold recognized technical qualification and demonstrate high customer focus.
- Exhibit strong management and leadership capabilities.
- Communicate effectively at all organisational levels.
- Possess formal Mechanical/Electrical engineering qualifications, preferably via apprenticeship.
- Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Experience with HVAC systems.
- High‑voltage system experience.
- Proven experience in contract management.
- Understanding of COSHH, risk assessments, and water‑treatment assets.
- C&G 17th Edition BSI certification (asset).
- HV qualification (asset).
