Principal Electrical Engineer

Description

The engineer will design electrical power distribution systems, including protective relays, PLC controls, and power monitoring, using computer‑aided design tools to create one‑line and three‑line diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams, and physical layouts for medium‑voltage (2.4‑38 kV) equipment that meet ANSI/IEEE, UL, and North American market standards.

The position provides comprehensive customer support, consulting on product applications with end users, consultants, and contractors, and partnering with Schneider Electric sales, quotation, and project execution teams. Close collaboration with factory support functions—production, supply chain, purchasing, and customer service—ensures an optimal customer experience.

• Generate and ensure technical quality of deliverables, including drawings, bills of material, and services.
• Ensure compliance with project objectives.
• Continuously improve design activities regarding knowledge, efficiency, processes, quality, and service level.
• Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to maintain design intent and safety considerations.
• Translate customer requirements into electrical designs, producing one‑lines, three‑lines, control schematics, wiring diagrams, and bills of material.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications for medium‑voltage equipment.
• Manage time efficiently to address manufacturing e‑Andons.
• Communicate clearly with internal and external customers.
• Apply relevant codes and standards.

Requirements

Schneider Electric North America Operations Power Systems Division is hiring a Principal Electrical Engineer for its Smyrna and Mount Juliet, Tennessee facilities. The role is open to candidates with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and relevant industry experience who are passionate about the electrical power sector.
