The role includes mentoring entry‑level and junior structural engineers, providing guidance on project tasks and professional development. It requires clear, concise oral and written communication, the ability to coordinate meetings, deliver client presentations, and prepare detailed reports. Interaction with multiple engineering disciplines, office staff, clients, and subcontractors occurs throughout the project life‑cycle.
The engineer organizes and conducts structural investigations, calculations, and planning within defined scopes, and researches feasibility of alternative designs and regulatory requirements. They lead the development of calculations, plans, specifications, requests for proposals, and other contract documents, while managing the production of construction drawings, specifications, bid packages, and cost estimates. Acting as Engineer of Record, Task Manager, or Project Engineer, they oversee budgets, schedules, permit checklists, scopes of work, and ensure timely project delivery.
