The incumbent will oversee traffic management personnel, handling hiring, scheduling, training, professional development, morale‑building, and corrective actions. They will coordinate with NJDOT clients and stakeholders to report status and plan operations, while designing engineering plans for signal optimization, data collection, workflow automation, and roadway safety improvements. The role also directs routine tasks, leads novel solutions in traffic modeling, simulation, and artificial intelligence, and conducts investigations and planning work with well‑defined scope. Additional duties include developing response plans for events, preparing performance reports and feasibility studies, collaborating with project management on scopes, schedules and cost estimates, performing quality‑control checks, and visiting client sites as needed.
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering is required, with a PE license. Candidates typically have six to ten years of experience since their bachelor’s degree (or three years since a master’s), including three to five years in a supervisory capacity. Strong technical writing, computer, and communication skills are essential.
