Senior Power Systems Controls Engineer

Description

The Senior Power System Controls Engineer will deliver field service systems integration engineering and technical consultation for customers and fellow PSC engineers, covering system design, programming, installation, start‑up, maintenance, repair, training, and modification of automated control and power management systems.

Key duties include following customer and internal specifications, preparing submittal documentation, selecting components and creating bills of materials, providing sketches and direction for electrical designers, reviewing and completing CAD drawings, ensuring proper controls, metering and monitoring, writing operating sequences and manuals, developing custom power and control schemes, supporting factory testing and field start‑ups, troubleshooting systems, and applying PLC and relay logic expertise, with up to 50% travel.

• Provide field service systems integration engineering and technical consultation for power automation projects.
• Design, program, install, start up, maintain, repair, train on, and modify automated control and power management systems.
• Follow customer and internal specifications; prepare submittal documentation and review project requirements.
• Select components, create bill of materials, and produce sketches and mark‑ups for electrical designs.
• Review, approve, and complete CAD project drawings ensuring proper controls, metering, and monitoring.
• Write operating sequences, instruction manuals, and develop custom power/control schemes (load shedding, microgrid, breaker control, SCADA).
• Design and implement simple and complex automatic transfer controls and paralleling switchgear applications.
• Assist with factory testing, field start‑ups, and troubleshoot systems using diagnostic equipment and relay logic.
• Apply PLC programming and digital multifunction relay knowledge for genset protection and utility compliance.

Requirements

Eaton’s ES AMER ESS division is seeking a Senior Power Systems Controls Engineer. The annual salary range is $99,900 – $146,520, based on experience, market and business considerations. The position can be located in Pittsburgh, PA; Rochester, NY; Clifton Park, NY; Mountainside, NJ; Philadelphia, PA; Baltimore, MD; Manassas, VA; Richmond, VA; or Boston, MA, requires up to 50% travel and a company vehicle is provided.

Required qualifications are a Bachelor’s degree in engineering and at least three years of controls experience (or five years in power‑distribution controls), residence in the greater Northeastern U.S., and a valid driver’s license. Preferred qualifications include a Professional Engineer license and knowledge of SCADA systems and protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, and IEC‑61850.

• Travel up to 50% of the time; maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Required: Bachelor’s in engineering with ≥3 years controls experience (or ≥5 years in power distribution) and residence in the Northeastern U.S.
• Preferred: Professional Engineer license and familiarity with SCADA protocols (Modbus, DNP3, IEC‑61850).
