Utility Locators locate underground utilities for clients and property owners by responding to 811 tickets and complying with dig laws. They use utility maps, as‑built civil‑engineering drawings, GIS information, and various pipe‑ and electronic‑locating equipment, then mark locations with flags or paint. Each job requires taking photographs, preparing reports, forms, and memos, and entering data into a cell‑phone app that stores photos and documentation.
The company is hiring full‑time Utility Locators. Candidates must have at least two years of utility locating experience and be prepared for an on‑call rotation. The role includes traveling up to 75 % of the time and working in all weather conditions.
Locators must know best locating practices, read and interpret utility maps, maintain clean and tobacco‑free vehicles, and operate small‑ to medium‑sized equipment and trucks. They are responsible for completing paperwork, following written and oral instructions, communicating with coworkers and the public, and demonstrating attention to detail and problem‑solving skills. A valid driver’s license, ability to obtain a DOT physical, willingness to work varying schedules, overtime, and pass a drug screen are also required.
Personal attributes sought include self‑motivation, quick learning, team orientation, exemplary character, and a strong focus on safety. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential.
