Mechanical Sustaining Engineer I

Description

• Provides design guidance and oversight to assigned mechanical designers for specific projects enabling them to release optimized designs
• Develops bill of materials (BOM) and translation documents related to new or changed designs
• Coordinates with engineering and others to deviate/approve part shortages
• Develops new or modifies current equipment selections
• Prepares product documentation, operating instructions, and reviews related technical literature
• Maintains and builds professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, or participating in professional societies
• Creates new designs to support customer specials and develops the specifications for each new component
• Creates cost estimates for the special request including cost of material and labor.
• Reviews Mechanical CAD modeling and simulations
• Collaborate with the Product Design Engineering team to develop designs
• Produce software change requests for selection tool and test the results
• Tests and troubleshoots designs products to ensure they are functioning properly and are safe for use
• Provides support to production team to facilitate seamless product and feature releases
• Stays up to date with local and national design codes and regulations to ensure that designs meet safety standards including but not limited to UL, CE, NEC, IBC, and NFPA
• Works with engineering and operations to implement engineering change notices (ECN)
• Collaborates with designers and engineers to ensure that the product designs integrate seamlessly with other systems
• Reviews product specifications for designs and makes design recommendations
• Supports DFMEAs, PFMEAs, CFD, FEA, and seismic evaluations and testing
• Work is performed in a climate-controlled office setting

Requirements

• Demonstrates strong Mechanical Engineering and design skills
• Frequent exposure to manufacturing facilities with seasonal hot and cold temperatures, dust, and some chemical fume exposuref
• Creativity and innovation to implement new ideas and technologies
• Demonstrates strong multi-tasking capabilities and organizational skills
• Associate’s degree and 10 years’ industry experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology and 5 years’ industry experience
• Ability to lead projects, including conceptual designs, make design recommendations, and mentor junior Design Engineers
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and interpersonal skills
• Understands safety standards including but not limited to UL, CE, NEC, IBC, and NFPA
• Ability to work in conditions below 32 degrees or above 90 degrees on occasion
• Travels, when necessary, in support of business needs
