As a Material Handler you will be responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of a chemical processing unit. The role involves loading and unloading raw materials, intermediates and finished products on a rotating shift within a material‑handling shipping operation.
The position requires participation in safety training, operation of mechanical equipment such as tanks, pumps and filters, and control of the unit manually or via Delta V/SIS systems. Responsibilities include start‑up and shut‑down, hazardous and non‑hazardous material handling, product changeovers, forklift driving, and loading/unloading of trucks, railcars, barges and ISO containers. Additional duties involve sample collection, maintenance coordination, shift logging, emergency response and adherence to safety, environmental and ethical standards.
- Participate in all safety training and programs.
- Operate tanks, pumps, knockout pots, exchangers, valves, and filters safely.
- Control the unit manually or via Delta V and SIS process control systems.
- Perform start‑up and shut‑down of the production facility.
- Handle hazardous and non‑hazardous materials, including loading/unloading raw materials and finished products.
- Execute product changeovers for storage tanks, railcars, trailers, and ISO containers.
- Drive forklifts, trailers, and other equipment for material moves.
- Load and unload trucks, railcars, barges, and ISO containers.
- Collect laboratory samples and apply process control adjustments.
- Conduct autonomous maintenance and coordinate repairs with the technical team.
- Maintain shift logs and ensure effective handovers.
- Activate emergency systems or shut down the unit to mitigate unsafe conditions.
- Operate RFID reader system and use RailManager/SAP for logistics tracking.
- Ensure compliance with site safety, environmental, and ethical standards.

Basic qualifications include a high school diploma with five years of industrial operations experience, or an associate degree in applied sciences with at least two years relevant experience, and eligibility for a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). Preferred qualifications are experience with process controls, prior chemical‑plant work, and solid mechanical and chemical knowledge.
