The advisor will enable the Capital Programme to progress by providing expert, timely advice and strong stakeholder management, identifying risks early, evaluating traffic management and reinstatement options, and coordinating with road authorities and other utilities throughout planning, construction and reinstatement stages.
Building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders is a critical part of the job, as is contributing to continuous improvement, learning lessons for the Capital Programme and wider business, and monitoring the Scottish Road Works Register for inspections.
The role covers the North West Highlands—from Wick in the north to Fort William in the south and the Inner Hebrides in the west—and may require occasional travel to remote locations. A full clean UK driving licence is required and candidates are preferably based in Inverness, though Perth applicants will be considered.
Required skills include strong interpersonal and influencing abilities, problem‑solving mindset, and confident communication and reporting. Experience in civil‑engineering construction and utility road works is essential; qualifications in this area are a plus. Desirable skills include Lean training (white/yellow belt), proficiency in MS Word and Excel, and Power BI knowledge.
The position is Grade 5 with a starting salary of £32,650, progressing up to £38,610 based on performance. It offers a Monday‑to‑Friday pattern, 38 days holiday (plus the option to buy five more), flexible working, pension, life assurance, annual bonus and access to SW Splash rewards.
