Incumbents perform a range of duties including safe construction and repair of energized and de‑energized lines, stringing overhead wire, setting poles and anchors, and installing equipment such as transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear. They also troubleshoot primary and secondary systems, replace fuses, clear faults, and ensure proper grounding and voltage identification while adhering to strict safety protocols. Additional responsibilities include maintaining company vehicles and tools, performing rigorous physical labor, and working at heights or confined spaces.
The Class B Lineman – Overhead is a semi‑skilled position focused on the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. The role involves working at various job sites and may require travel to other states based on customer needs.
Candidates must have at least five years of recent field experience, be able to read and communicate effectively in English, and obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) permit within 60 days of hire (CDL preferred). The role requires the ability to travel long distances on short notice, work extended periods in diverse locations, lift more than 50 lb, and inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment. Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays is also required.
The position demands regular standing, walking, hearing, and manual dexterity, and it is performed outdoors in all weather conditions, often with exposure to fumes, vibration, and loud noise.
