Gas Operations manages the transmission and distribution of natural gas for PG&E, overseeing 6,700 miles of transmission pipeline, 43,000 miles of distribution mains, 3.6 million gas services, three storage facilities, nine compressor stations and 5,000 measurement and control sites, supported by approximately 6,000 coworkers.
The role prepares, conducts, and evaluates engineering, construction, and operations assessments in line with work procedures, policies, and design standards. Responsibilities include independent and team‑based quality assessments, reporting results, verifying operator qualifications, and maintaining instrument calibration records.
- Collect, verify, and analyze data to meet quality control objectives and criteria.
- Develop QC work procedures, scorecards, and related documentation.
- Evaluate assessment findings and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Schedule and lead QC assessment entrance and close‑out meetings.
- Act as subject‑matter expert for work procedures, standards, and policies (e.g., I&R/Corrosion, Leak Survey, Distribution, Transmission).
- Participate in quality audits, including planning, execution, reporting, and corrective actions.
- Prepare and submit assessment reports and support corporate quality initiatives.
- Review regulations, standards, procedures, and records relevant to assessments.

Candidates must have a High School diploma or GED, at least five years of relevant experience (including one year as a gas quality control specialist), a valid California driver’s license, and be comfortable with a 70 % field/30 % office split. Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree, gas field work experience, ASQ or API certifications, NACE CIP, and Lean/Quality training such as Six Sigma.
- Minimum qualifications: High School diploma or GED; 5 years relevant experience at journeyman level or equivalent in gas infrastructure/quality control; 1 year gas quality control specialist experience; valid California driver’s license; ability to work 70% field and 30% office.
- Desired qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; gas field work, GPOM, distribution & transmission, and gas clearance experience; prior PG&E experience; ASQ Certified Quality Auditor or Certified Quality Improvement Specialist; API 1169 Pipeline Inspector certification; Certified Welding Inspector (CWI); NACE CIP Level 1 or 2; Six Sigma or other Lean/Quality training.
Benefits
The salary range is location‑dependent, with Bay Area limits of $105,000 to $169,000 and California limits of $100,000 to $161,000. Final pay will consider skills, education, certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity, and is expected to fall near the middle or entry point of the range.
