P&C Design Engineer (Protection and Control)

Performing design, project management, and technical leadership for protection and control systems in electrical transmission systems.
Specify and procure materials, panel assemblies and other related equipment.
Providing technical guidance and review of designs prepared by others following established practices.
Prepare commissioning test plans and summary of requirements documentation.
Prepare detailed designs and documentation for protection and control systems in substations with operating voltages from 12 kV to 500 kV in accordance with and industry standards and practices.
Prepare detailed design packages (equipment layouts, single line diagrams, ac/dc schematics diagrams, cable schedules, wiring diagrams, material lists, external connections) required to install or modify equipment, including interfacing to the existing station systems, ready to issue and archive in the Drawing file system.
Provide technical assistance and construction support in the field and undertake field reviews as required by EGBC.
Prepare design work packages including scope, duration, and level of effort estimates.
Provide training for end-users and peers on the theory and operational use of the installed or modified equipment/systems.
Prepare project documentation and deliverables in accordance with project and Engineering Design Practices (i.e. evaluation reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis', calculations, hazard logs, test plans).
Prepare reports detailing condition assessment investigations of facility equipment and systems, evaluation and analysis of the investigation, and recommendations to address any deficiencies found.
Prepare signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) and design practices.

Experience with preparing project cost estimates, specifications, and scope definition documents.
Familiarity with utility processes for material procurement, installation, and commissioning.
Proficiency in creating detailed design packages, including electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment layouts using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation).

Ability to use standard industry design/analysis software
Every contractor must supply their own Windows 10 or 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
Deep understanding of relevant industry (e.g., IEEE, NERC, IEC), and regulatory standards and practices related to electrical substation design and operation.
Strong analytical skills for conducting fault analysis, power system studies, and condition assessments.
Intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Familiarity with CAD systems and drawing standards
Valid Class 5 driver's license
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, specialization in Power Systems is strongly preferred.
Experience with the design of protection and control systems in electrical utility substations with operating voltages from 12kV to 500kV and demonstrated experience working with utility P&C design solutions and protection & control systems in an electric utility environment.
8 years of progressive experience in a relevant engineering field, specifically focused on Electrical Power System Protection and Control (combination of expericne and education will be considered
Intermediate English skills for professional environment, written and spoken
Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired
Expert knowledge of protection philosophies, schemes, relay settings, and control systems for transmission stations.
Benefits
Pay Rate: $98/hour, depending on experience
