Shive-Hattery's Iowa City office is seeking a new graduate or early‑career Structural Engineer in Training with 0‑3 years of experience. This full‑time role supports the goal of obtaining an Iowa Professional Engineer license, working under the Group Leader and senior structural engineers on a variety of private and public sector design projects.
Shive‑Hattery does not provide visa sponsorship; candidates must have current, ongoing authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
- Hold a bachelor's degree in Structural or Architectural Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Have 0‑3 years of relevant experience; internship or summer experience is a plus.
- Pass or intend to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Experience designing with concrete, steel, and masonry; interest in concrete design preferred.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within multi‑discipline teams.
- Possess good oral and written communication abilities.
- Prefer practical experience with Revit, Navisworks/Recap, structural design software, and Microsoft Office.
- Must be able to drive, have automobile access, climb ladders, work from elevated platforms or underground tunnels, and use required personal protective equipment.
- Able to pass required drug screening and background checks for client sites.
