The Shop Helper works 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and supports shop efficiency by performing semi‑skilled and unskilled tasks, freeing Journeyman Technicians for highly‑skilled work.
Semi‑skilled duties include assisting Journeymen, performing preventative maintenance, removing and installing parts with hand/air tools, minor painting, preliminary diagnostics, installing minor electrical components, completing service reports, and maintaining shop equipment. Unskilled duties cover loading/unloading, inventories, tank maintenance, transporting components, cleaning equipment and wash bays, and general shop clean‑up.
Employees must complete all service training, follow Caterpillar guidelines, work safely with PPE, keep work areas organized, complete required paperwork, adhere to supervisor directions and company policies, and maintain regular attendance.
Candidates need two years of hands‑on mechanical repair experience on diesel/gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, or earth‑moving equipment, or a relevant technical certification, and must provide their own basic hand tools. Required skills include computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, ability to read technical documentation, strong mechanical aptitude, good communication, and a cooperative attitude. Physical demands include lifting 100 lb, pushing/pulling 60 lb, and continuous standing, walking, squatting, kneeling, and bending.
