

Global EPC specialist delivering AC substation design‑to‑construction for power, transport, utilities and data sectors
In this position you will manage and lead all primary engineering activities from project initiation through the As‑Built stage, ensuring strict adherence to project specifications, Linxon standards, QA/QC, HSSE and integrity requirements. You will coordinate with the remote Linxon design team, the overall project lead engineer and other discipline teams, monitor engineering costs, and report on risk and change management. Technical responsibilities include reviewing and validating documentation, completing primary sections of the general project documentation, and ensuring design changes follow the contract’s change management process.
You will attend design review meetings, hazard review meetings and participate in technical discussions with customers and suppliers, handling site queries and driving actions through to as‑built documentation. When supporting tenders you will prepare RFQs, validate technical content of supplier offers and provide budget estimates for the primary scope.
Lead Primary Engineer – Birmingham, United Kingdom. Linxon is seeking an experienced lead primary engineer with a proven track record in substation engineering and turnkey HV GIS/AIS projects. The role sits within Linxon’s Engineering Department and involves executing complex turnkey substation projects as the technical lead for the primary discipline.
The successful candidate must hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering (or equivalent) and have extensive experience in HV substation engineering for utilities, with knowledge of modern GIS and AIS technologies. Availability to travel up to 25 % of the time and flexibility to work both in an office and on construction sites are required.
Key competencies include a results‑oriented, proactive team‑player attitude, excellent communication skills for multi‑cultural environments, and deep expertise in primary substation design, grounding, lightning, steel design inputs, transformers, HV/MV switchgear, and cable calculations. Proficiency in MS Office, MicroStation and AutoCAD is required, as well as fluency in written and spoken English.
