The position is based in Detroit Lakes, MN, and serves as a key project team member on municipal civil engineering projects from planning through design and construction. Graduate Engineers work independently and collaboratively to develop project plans, specifications, and reports, reporting to a Project Manager or Senior Engineer, and may act as resident project representative in the field.
Typical duties include delivering professional civil engineering services such as planning, design, specification preparation, construction observation, and project management. The role requires frequent communication with supervisors, project managers, and clients, participation in company, project, and client meetings, and involvement in proposal preparation and business development activities.
Graduate Engineers are expected to think independently, make sound judgments, and serve as the owner's on‑site representative during construction. They must follow company CADD procedures, adhere to the employee handbook and safety policies, work both independently and in teams, and may travel or work overtime during peak construction periods.
Required qualifications include a B.S. in Civil Engineering, EIT certification (or ability to obtain within one year), and 0‑5 years of civil engineering experience. Candidates must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, be detail‑oriented, self‑motivated, and proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD/Civil‑3D, MicroStation/GeoPak, with additional CADD or GIS experience considered a plus.
Physical requirements involve operating a computer in an ergonomic office setting and performing outdoor construction observation, which may include standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
