C Lineman - Overhead (Blue Ridge Co-op)

Description

• Perform new construction, maintenance, or repair work on energized and de‑energized overhead systems safely.
• String overhead wire.
• Set poles and anchors.
• Assist with installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
• Assist in replacing fuses in transformers and clearing faulted circuits and systems.
• Work with energized high‑voltage systems, protecting lives.
• Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
• Proper use, installation, removal, and inspection of PPE and rubber goods.
• Follow company safety rules and policies.

Requirements

Class C Lineman is an entry level lineman position in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. This role works at various locations and may be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands.

• 1–2 years of relevant experience.
• Ability to perform rigorous physical labor and lift over 50 lb.
• Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit and understand induced voltage.
• Familiarity with installing and hooking up a single‑phase transformer.
• Ability to safely set poles, work at heights and in confined spaces, and climb various structures.
• Competence in checking transformer voltage, installing/removing services, and using hand lines.
• Knowledge of lineman knots, grounding procedures, equipment set‑up, and Kellum grips.
• Ability to identify line‑work materials and travel long distances on short notice.
• Availability for extended periods in various locations and willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (preferred).
• Self‑motivated.
