The Cement Mason role involves pouring forms and finishing, leveling, grinding, patching, and repairing concrete. The employee operates equipment such as power screeds, trowels, and concrete saws to achieve specified depths and finishes. Work includes preparing substrates, setting and removing formwork, and completing concrete curing operations. All tasks are performed in accordance with AP’s quality management programs and project specifications.
Safety is a core responsibility; the Mason must take personal ownership of an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) culture and champion safe practices. This includes consistently communicating IIF tenets, adhering to company safety policies, and supporting a culture of care for every team member. Daily inspection of work‑in‑progress ensures compliance with specifications, schedules, and quality standards.
Key duties include spreading and leveling concrete with hand tools and power equipment, preparing surfaces through chipping, blasting, bushing, and grinding, and shaping finishes as required. The Mason removes rough or defective spots, patches holes, molds expansion joints and edges, and maintains clean tools and a tidy work area each day. Inspection of work ensures the highest workmanship quality and alignment with AP’s standards. Additional tasks may be assigned as needed.
Candidates must hold a high school diploma or equivalent and have completed an apprenticeship or equivalent training. ACI certification is required within one year and must be maintained. Physical requirements include frequent climbing, kneeling, lifting up to 50 lb (occasionally 80 lb), and the ability to travel up to 70 + miles to project sites. Applicants should be able to read blueprints, resolve construction issues proactively, possess basic math skills, and demonstrate integrity, self‑motivation, and teamwork.
