Assist with mechanical designs as needed. Duties could include but not limited to: Concept level mechanical system design
Apply building physics assessments to buildings and master plans (such as energy modeling, water budget analysis, daylighting analysis, thermal comfort, microclimate analysis, shading analysis, views etc.)
Identify strategies and solutions for clients that improve energy performance, indoor air quality, and thermal comfort.
Preparation of schematics
Propose future low energy solutions for new buildings including, potentially, on site renewable generation, demand side management, battery backup etc.
Prepare OBC and NECB Performance Compliance Path documentation for Building Permit submissions.
Manage and deliver building performance and simulation assignments (whole building energy modeling, natural ventilation design, thermal comfort, etc.), and greenhouse gas emissions analysis for new construction and existing buildings.
Prepare design assist energy models and complete load calculations using IES VE.
Prepare energy models using IES Virtual Environment in support of sustainability accreditations such as LEED and CaGBC Zero Carbon Building Standard L.
Preparation of design briefs
Undertake economic analysis of energy conservation and carbon reduction measures including lifecycle cost analysis (LCCA).

Knowledge in whole lifecycle Carbon (WLC) Assessments, energy measurements, life cycle cost analysis, gap analysis and feasibility studies
Geoexchange sizing and design
Knowledge in achieving corporate goals for energy reduction, green energy adoptions, or GHG reduction, including progress toward Net Zero goals or Science Based Targets is considered an asset.
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Specialization in sustainability is considered an asset.
Experience with TRNSYS, Ladybug Tools, RETScreen, eQUEST, EE4, and/or EnergyPlus considered an asset.
Strong knowledge of HVAC and building control systems
Mechanical design experience and Revit are an asset
Experience with simulation software including IES Virtual Environment, and/or EnergyPlus.
Strong verbal and written communication skills and an ability to provide excellent client service.
A commitment to sustainable design is essential for this position.
Awareness of any new technologies or methods that may increase sustainability and continually recommending costeffective and environmentally friendly practices
Experience with thermal comfort analysis, CFD (for natural ventilation and displacement ventilation), and daylight simulation considered an asset
BEMP, CEM, credentials are considered assets.
Sizing and layout of ducts and piping
Ability to achieve Secret Clearance from PSPC
Sound knowledge of lighting systems, energy conservation measures, greenhouse gas emission, and building physics.
Strong background in energyefficient system design and simulation, daylighting, green building certifications, energy analysis studies, and energy management & incentive programs.
Experience with lifecycle cost analysis and energy audits preferred.
