The role involves managing and quality‑assuring archaeological fieldwork programmes and subcontractors, acting as Archaeological Clerk of Works on major infrastructure projects in the South‑East and East of England. You will develop heritage work scopes, mitigation and research strategies, and public outreach programmes, while providing technical advice to clients and internal teams. Responsibilities also include preparing EIA screening, heritage statements, desk‑based assessments, investigation schemes and consent applications, assessing heritage constraints, delivering medium‑to‑large projects on time and budget, and liaising with stakeholders and client teams.
You should have a strong knowledge of the UK historic environment and experience delivering archaeological fieldwork, complemented by commercial awareness of the UK planning system. A relevant Master's degree or equivalent commercial experience, membership of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists at Associate level or higher, and a full clean UK driving licence are required. Additional expectations include health‑and‑safety awareness, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, and specialist expertise in periods, themes or environmental archaeology.
The role may require security clearance, with the vetting process handled by UK Security Vetting and subject to residency requirements. We are committed to an inclusive culture with family‑friendly policies, flexible working arrangements and employee resource groups. As an equal‑opportunity employer we welcome applications from all backgrounds and encourage diversity in our workforce.
Take our vision into the future. We offer a diverse and inclusive work environment where everyone has a voice and can tackle client challenges together. We also support those returning from career breaks to transition back smoothly.
We offer competitive salaries, a range of employee rewards and flexible benefits that you can tailor to your health, wellbeing, financial and lifestyle preferences. Extensive training and professional development opportunities help you grow your skills, while our hybrid working culture and flexible holiday allowances support a balanced personal life.
