The Mechanical Estimator will lead the development of accurate cost estimates for complex mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, piping, and fire protection. This role involves analyzing project specifications, drawings, and technical documentation while implementing advanced estimating strategies and conducting market research to identify cost trends and risks.
Leadership and mentorship are key components, as the estimator will train junior estimators, review their work for accuracy, and lead estimating team meetings to foster a collaborative environment. They will also contribute to the development and implementation of best practices within the estimating function.
Strategic planning responsibilities include participating in bidding strategy sessions, evaluating project feasibility and profitability, and negotiating with subcontractors and vendors to secure competitive pricing. The estimator will present cost proposals to clients and maintain strong stakeholder relationships through clear communication.
Process improvement duties involve identifying enhancements to estimating procedures, recommending new software and technologies, and maintaining cost databases while ensuring compliance with industry standards. The role also requires overseeing detailed cost reporting and incorporating safety considerations into labor and equipment estimates.
Candidates should hold a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field and possess 3‑5+ years of mechanical estimating experience. The position operates primarily in an office setting with occasional travel to project sites and requires proficiency in estimating software, Microsoft Office, and strong analytical and communication skills.
