• Operate HDD locating equipment for underground cable or utility installation.
• Steer drill based on job preparations and projections, maintaining bend radius for steel pipe.
• Adhere to engineered tolerances and maintain bore profile plots with directional drilling data.
• Assist in locating and planning bores around existing utilities and perform basic labor tasks.
• Maintain professionalism with public, customers, and crew; obtain prints and permits.
• Set up and clean up worksite, planning to avoid return trips.

Requirements

The Albuquerque, NM location is seeking a Horizontal/Directional Drill (HDD) Locator. The successful candidate will be specially trained to operate Vermeer and Ditch Witch drill rigs, using advanced electronic equipment to navigate drill stems in trenchless operations and support the installation of underground cable conduit.

This full‑time, hourly role requires working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, from extreme cold to high heat, and in diverse settings such as urban, rural, and traffic‑heavy environments. Physical demands include standing for long periods, lifting up to 75 lb regularly, and performing tasks like climbing, kneeling, and crawling while adhering to safety protocols.

• Prior HDD locator experience operating DCI or underground magnetic locate systems.
• Experience with wireline locate systems (preferred).
• Prior drill crew experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record; Class A CDL a plus (employer assistance).
• Pass pre‑employment drug screen and background check.
• Understanding of ground conditions and safe hand‑tool use.
• Effective communication skills; able to work in all weather conditions.
• Ability to lift/carry 50 lb regularly and up to 100 lb as needed.
• Preferred: construction experience in telecom/pipeline, knowledge of H/D drill locator procedures, willingness to travel.
