The Principal Design Engineer / Assistant Chief Engineer will join the Global Mechanical Design team within the A&I Division, leading the design of driveline and transmission systems for sectors such as automotive, aerospace, defense, marine and clean energy. The role involves managing a team of mechanical designers, collaborating with other engineering disciplines, and supporting business development activities.

Design 3D mechanical systems, assemblies, and components such as transmission casings, rotating parts, gears, and injection‑moulded parts.
Perform detailed design tasks including stress calculations, FMEA, 2‑D detailing, layouts, and tolerance stack‑ups.
Collaborate with FEA, CFD and simulation teams to meet validation requirements.
Work with manufacturing and process engineers to ensure DFMA compliance.
Manage Bill of Materials for projects.
Produce technical reports and documentation for engineering projects.
Liaise with suppliers and internal departments to obtain required information and address client requests promptly.
Coach and mentor design engineers in techniques and departmental processes.
Lead projects as Chief Designer or Chief Engineer and supervise small‑ to mid‑size design teams.
Support business development with mechanical design input for proposals and client queries.
Monitor market sector trends and developments.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
Significant experience in mechanical design engineering, especially in transmissions, hybrid transmissions or electric drive units.
Strong grasp of mechanical engineering principles; able to interpret and apply FEA and CFD results.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and DFMA; proficient in 2‑D drawing creation, GD&T, and 3‑D CAD (CREO, CATIA, NX).
Experience with PLM systems such as Windchill.
Proven leadership of small teams.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Confident, proactive and adaptable leader in challenging situations.
Excellent technical writing and communication skills in English.
Strong problem‑solving and analytical abilities.
Able to prioritise multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
Willing to travel to support global client base.
