The Field Service Technician III is a key member of our field service team, responsible for assisting in the assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of transformers and related equipment, with safety as the top priority. This role also involves training and mentoring less‑experienced technicians.
- Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including the use of personal protection equipment (PPE)
- Participate in safety training programs and meetings
- Perform basic testing as a crew lead on transformer installation, maintenance and emergency work
- Install, test and maintain electrical apparatus with knowledge of transformer theory of operation
- Troubleshoot and solve problems during inspections and apparatus testing
- Create plans for testing apparatus
- Perform administrative duties such as inspections, job briefs, and work order entry
- Install and commission Calisto and other monitoring systems

Field Service Technician III – Nationally Recognized Experts Specialized in Transformer and Substation Apparatus Installation, Services, and Repair. At NASS, we provide the broadest set of one‑stop substation service capabilities in the country—from turnkey upgrades and asset assemblies to major repairs and testing, including transformers, breakers, switches, arresters, and apparatus testing, as well as comprehensive inspection programs, protection and control commissioning, and control cabinet engineering.
The position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions and may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts, heights, hazardous locations, wet or humid environments, temperature extremes, fumes, traffic, potential electrical shock, noise, and vibration.
- Understand testing theory and analyze results
- Operate oil vacuum processing rig and top‑off transformers proficiently
- Communicate clearly internally and externally
- Must have 5 or more years of industry experience
- High School diploma or GED; supplemental electrical maintenance courses desired
- Current, valid driver’s license with a good driving record
- Ability to crawl, climb, stand and lift up to 50 lb with or without reasonable accommodations
- Pass a fit‑for‑duty exam
- Available for regular overnight domestic travel and occasional international travel
- Willing to work flexible hours, overtime, occasional weekends, holidays and nights
- Able and willing to travel up to 75 % as needed
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred
- NCCO Crane Certification preferred
- Some knowledge of mechanical fundamentals and principles preferred
- Understanding of hazards and safety precautions in power distribution facilities preferred
- Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and prints
- Ability to read and interpret various power generation and distribution metering devices
- Ability to learn industry practices and procedures
- Ability to follow oral and written directions
Benefits
Compensation: The hourly rate for this position is between $32.00 and $46.00 per hour. Starting pay may vary based on geography, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications.
