The role includes business development in Latin America, advising on local business climate, leading technical standards and waterfront engineering analysis, mentoring project teams, handling elevated client concerns, reviewing project progress, ensuring quality control, coordinating client relationships, leading proposal preparation, writing clear reports, and managing schedules within budgets.
- Support Ports Practice objectives through contacts and ongoing business development in Latin America and abroad
- Serve as M&N’s eyes and ears on the ground to advise M&N on issues of local business climate and trends, opportunities, changes in local A-E consulting practices (laws, rules, regulations, licensing, taxes), politics, and other issues pertinent to M&N’s business operations
- Lead the establishment / development of technical standards, design approaches, and manage the technical analysis of waterfront engineering.
- Serve as an inter-company leader, contributing to strategic growth and development initiatives of discipline and practice
- Mentor, guide, train, and advise Project Team members, assist with assignment requests and recommend Project Team assignments
- Resolve elevated Client concerns or demands not addressed by the Project Team and conduct Client debriefs at designated project milestones
- Participate in significant Project Reviews, review Project Progress Reports and direct appropriate change
- Verify that Quality Control activities occurred in accordance with the contract and Project Plan
- Coordinate with business development and other M&N groups to manage Client relationships and Client satisfaction
- Work with various Business Unit Leaders (BUL) throughout the organization
- Lead and review preparation of proposals, cost estimates, engineering analysis and calculations, and drawings
- Write, when appropriate, clear, concise, and accurate technical and non-technical reports, correspondence, specifications, and proposals
- Plan, schedule work, and complete work assignments within established budgets and timelines

Qualifications require a civil engineering bachelor's degree, a master's in structural, civil, coastal, or ocean engineering, PE registration, and 20+ years of maritime engineering experience in the U.S. and Latin America. Candidates must demonstrate strong communication, leadership, business development, and bilingual abilities, and will be subject to background checks and E‑Verify requirements.
Working conditions involve an office setting with occasional visits to ports, national and international travel, and the physical requirement of using standard office equipment while seated for prolonged periods.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil engineering; required
- Master’s degree in Structural, Civil, Coastal, or Ocean engineering; required
- Professional Engineering (PE, PEng, CEng) registration; required
- Minimum 20+ years of experience in leading engineering, construction, planning, and design projects for the Maritime industry in US and Latin America; required
- Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation)
- Proven success directing design and construction of a wide range of infrastructure projects
- Proven success in leading people and managing resources
- Business development experience
- Bi-lingual / multi-lingual desired
- All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171
