The position is represented by IBEW Local 1245 and subject to collective bargaining. An Equipment Mechanic is a journey‑level professional with expertise in mobile and aerial hydraulics, OSHA and CHP inspections, air brakes, electrical/electronic systems, and diesel and gasoline powered equipment. The role is DOT‑covered, includes random drug/alcohol screening, and works a shift of Monday‑Thursday 2:30 pm‑11:00 pm and Friday 12:00 pm‑8:30 pm.
Candidates must pass all prerequisite and secondary pre‑employment tests, including the Physical Test Battery and Work Orientation Inventory, before interviewing.
- Be at least 18 years old, hold a high school diploma/GED or equivalent, and possess a valid Class A California driver’s license with DMV medical card by day one.
- Have a minimum of four years of certified journey‑level mechanic experience with light, medium, or heavy‑duty equipment.
- Lift at least 75 lb, climb on/under equipment, and kneel, squat, or crawl as needed while wearing provided PPE.
- Possess one year of experience with air brakes, hydraulics, heavy‑duty diesel equipment, and regulated inspections such as Cal OSHA boom and CHP BIT inspections.
- Demonstrate knowledge of vehicle electrical/computer‑controlled systems, welding, fabricating, and reading schematics/blueprints.
- Own personal tools and toolbox, and reside within 50 mi of the headquarters.
- Pass all prerequisite and secondary pre‑employment tests, including the Physical Test Battery and Work Orientation Inventory.

The starting hourly wage is $65.27, determined by factors such as skills, education, certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and collective bargaining agreements.
