Environmental Field Scientist/Engineer

Description

In this position you will collaborate with project coordinators and managers to keep projects on scope, schedule, and budget, while also mentoring junior field staff as you gain experience. Travel may require up to two weeks away from home, including weekends and evenings, and the role is supported by Parsons’ graduated safety program that prepares field staff for supervisory responsibilities.

• Conduct soil sampling during drilling, test pitting, and excavation activities.
• Perform groundwater and soil‑vapour monitoring using a variety of equipment.
• Supervise multiple contractors, including drillers, traffic‑control personnel, and excavator operators.
• Operate GPS, data loggers, survey levels, combustible‑gas meters, and related tools.
• Complete field documentation such as JSA forms, project field reports, field notes, and chain‑of‑custody forms.
• Coordinate with project managers to ensure work complies with scope, schedule, and budget.
• Mentor and provide technical support to junior field staff as needed.

Requirements

• Travel throughout British Columbia, potentially for up to two weeks and including weekends or evenings.
• Maintain a valid Class 5 driver’s licence and adhere to strict safety protocols.
• Hold a degree in earth sciences, environmental, civil, chemical, geological engineering or a related field.
• Demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a team in physically demanding conditions.
• Exhibit strong written and oral communication, leadership, and contractor‑management skills.
