The External Communications Strategy Partner works closely with business leaders to translate priorities into compelling external narratives. They lead media strategy and engagement across business, industry, and trade outlets, and drive leadership positioning through proactive opportunities such as interviews, opinion pieces, bylines, and expert commentary. They also cultivate and maintain relationships with key journalists, editors, and influencers, and support leadership visibility through media preparation, messaging, and storytelling.
The role identifies and curates speaking opportunities, panels, roundtables, and conferences for leadership participation, and seeks relevant external awards aligned with brand, innovation, sustainability, and leadership, managing end‑to‑end award submissions. It also leads development of high‑quality external communications content—including press releases, media materials, leadership talking points, and messaging documents—and supports digital and social media strategies for external storytelling, campaigns, announcements, and milestones.
The partner manages PR agencies and external vendors, establishing clear goals, KPIs, and performance metrics to ensure message consistency, high‑quality execution, and strong ROI. They own external communications budget planning and governance, tracking spend, forecasting needs, and ensuring cost‑effective utilization. Collaboration with internal communications, business leaders, marketing, HR, and facilities is essential for large‑scale events, leadership milestones, and major announcements to align internal and external messaging.
The ideal candidate has 8‑14 years of corporate communications, PR, or external communications experience, with prior agency and vendor management experience. Preferred background includes B2B, industrial, manufacturing, infrastructure, or technology sectors, and a bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field (master’s preferred). Strong strategic thinking, media relations, storytelling, leadership positioning, stakeholder management, digital/social media expertise, project management, budgeting, and the ability to thrive in a matrixed global organization are required.
