The Sr. Relay Technician performs and supervises electrical testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of relays in power stations, using relay test equipment to evaluate various relays within substations.
- Lead safety briefings on job site and mitigate hazards
- Utilize Human Performance Error Elimination concepts and tools
- Analyze protection schemes for power circuits and system components
- Install, commission, test, and function‑test substation control circuits and relay panels
- Analyze event records and make informed deductions
- Develop execution, commissioning, outage sequence, and energization procedures
- Manage large‑scale, complex projects
- Train and qualify Relay Technicians I, II, and Relay Engineer I
- Interact with customers and provide technical support
- Perform complex troubleshooting of relay and control systems
- Conduct end‑to‑end relay testing using software and interpret fault types
- Lead investigations and root‑cause analysis of electrical issues
- Serve as on‑site lead, assign tasks, prioritize activities, and coordinate with customers
- Read and verify protection, control, and wiring schematics against standards
- Interpret customer requirements and deliver as‑built drawings and test results
- Utilize manufacturers' literature to facilitate testing
- Install, maintain, test, and repair protective relays at transmission, generation, or distribution substations
- Troubleshoot distribution and transmission control circuits
- Install, maintain, test, or repair circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, or similar equipment
- Climb ladders, stand for extended periods, and lift up to 70 lb

- Calibrate and function‑test electromechanical and microprocessor protective relays
- Pass pre‑employment drug screening and background checks
- Work overtime and travel out of town as required
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record
- Use relay test software proficiently
- Communicate effectively in writing and verbally
- Hold a bachelor's, associate, military, or engineering degree (preferred)
- Possess 5+ years of relevant industry experience
- Be NETA III/IV certified (preferred)
