The Assistant Operator position in Granite City, IL, reports to Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals. The role involves operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting processes and equipment in a plant environment, with primary Monday‑through‑Friday hours and rotating day and night shifts every two weeks, plus occasional weekend on‑call or outage duties.
Key responsibilities include operating process control systems (DCS), performing minor maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems, and using computer‑based tools such as SAP and Microsoft Office. The incumbent must collect and analyze data, make data‑driven decisions, and adhere to standardized policies that optimize safety, quality, and cost while collaborating with technical and administrative support functions across multiple locations.
Qualifications require a high school diploma or GED, the ability to climb ladders and lift at least 50 lb, and willingness to be on call for 24 × 7 plant operations.
