Surveying Instrument Technician

Description

• Assists in training rod technicians to accurately measure with a steel tape, level rod and prism pole and set up a tripod.
• Monitors project-related, on-site issues and provides input for production improvement.
• Operates all field instruments including levels, Theodolites and GPS equipment.
• Performs checking procedure for field information -- peg-check a level, circle closure, and double angles, etc.
• Runs all data collection equipment.
• Performs rod technician position duties.
• Operates a calculator for various survey applications.
• Participates in continuing education classes identified as important to improve skills or to keep current on survey issues.

Requirements

• 2 years related survey experience and/or training preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds.
• Excellent driving record and valid Florida driver’s license. Must be age 21 to drive a company vehicle.
• Performs Basic First Aid when required.
• Comprehends, and follows the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) safety manual.
• Learns how to use field instruments and maintains instruments in good working order.
• Cross-training and the ability to work on a variety of projects.
• High school diploma or GED
