Metallurgical Engineering Failure Analyst

Description

• Establish and maintain client contact for market/account development, understanding needs, building relationships, ensuring satisfaction, and maintaining a professional consulting image.
• Review technical documents, construct scopes of work, prepare proposals, schedule tests, analyze results, and produce high-quality reports.
• Perform root cause failure analysis on metallic components across aviation/aerospace, space, transportation, consumer products/industrials, and energy sectors.
• Conduct metallurgical examinations using optical microscopy.
• Perform scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
• Safely operate and maintain lab equipment per company requirements; estimate effort and support commercial work breakdown.
• Conduct and report root cause failure analyses.
• Operate SEM/EDS instruments for material investigation.
• Assess and respond to client requirements, prioritizing service and professional partnerships.
• Collaborate effectively within a team, leveraging collective expertise.

Requirements

• Utilize energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS).
• Hold recognized Metallurgy qualifications and a B.S. in Materials, Mechanical, or related engineering with 3‑5 years of failure analysis experience.
• Work within an ISO 17025 (Nadcap preferred) laboratory environment.
• Demonstrate strong communication and presentation abilities.
• Adapt flexibly to varied workloads and roles within the organization.

Benefits

Element has an opportunity for a Failure Analyst who will be primarily responsible for failure analysis inspections, operations, reporting, and consultation services. The position offers a salary range of $85,000 to $120,000 per year, dependent on experience.
