H&S Advisor

Description

The purpose of the role is to develop and ensure compliance with policies and procedures, providing a consistent and practical approach to health, safety, environmental and quality standards. The advisor will deliver toolbox talks, pre‑start briefings, produce reports and action plans, and offer expert advice. This hands‑on position works Monday to Friday, 07:30 am–6:00 pm, primarily in London and the South of England.

• Support project management teams in establishing and maintaining the highest Health, Safety & Environmental standards across projects.
• Conduct detailed inspections focused on SHEQ compliance, company and client management systems, and best practice.
• Ensure plant and materials are maintained (PUWER, LOLER, RAMS, COSHH, fire) and risk‑managed.
• Build engagement and consistency with the workforce, embedding the group's LIFE behaviour programme.
• Act as a team player supporting and participating in operations planning and delivery.
• Manage contractors to ensure HSEQ standards are adhered to.
• Undertake equipment inspections as required.
• Deliver accredited and bespoke training programmes.
• Conduct incident investigations.
• Produce and communicate educational material proactively.

Requirements

• Minimum NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
• CSCS card appropriate to the role.
• Up‑to‑date knowledge of RC frameworks and ground works.
• Experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
• Strong IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email).
• Proven ability to foster strong working relationships.
• Effective time management to meet deadlines.
• Experience in construction or engineering (desirable).
• Knowledge of TEEPs and TSTS (desirable).
• IEMA environmental qualification (desirable).
• Temporary Works Co‑ordinator experience (desirable).
• Fire risk assessor qualification (desirable).
• COSHH assessor qualification (desirable).
• Lifting experience (e.g., cranes) (desirable).
• Behavioural safety knowledge (desirable).
• Trainer/teaching qualification (desirable).
