NY Grade 2-2A Mobile Wastewater Operator

Description

• Perform critical testing of facility operations (pH, dissolved oxygen, chlorine, etc.) to monitor system condition.
• Complete Discharge Monitoring Reports as required by facility permits.
• Perform general preventative maintenance on treatment plant equipment, including blower oil, filter and belt changes, and inspecting submersible pumps.
• Maintain complete, accurate, legible records of all phases of facility operations.
• Maintain complete, accurate, legible records of all equipment and plant maintenance.
• Assist in preparing monthly operating reports based on operation and maintenance records for clients, employer, or regulatory agencies.
• Inform supervisor promptly of plant problems, upsets, expansions, repairs, etc.
• Work conscientiously, adhere to EH&S policies, and report safety hazards.
• Participate in a 24‑hour on‑call rotation.
• Discuss plant operations professionally with employer, client, visitors, or regulatory personnel.
• Collect required samples, log them accurately, submit to laboratory, and review results to ensure permit compliance.
• Operate plants to meet all regulatory guidelines and responsibilities.
• Assist maintenance personnel with removal of pumps, blowers, motors, valves, etc.
• Maintain accurate records for gasoline, mileage, timesheets, and expenses.
• Work scheduled weekends and occasional holidays for assigned route.
• Project a positive image to operators, clients, regulatory agencies, and engineers.
• Perform confined‑space entry when required after training.

Requirements

The Mobile Wastewater Operator serves the NYC service area, monitoring and adjusting treatment processes to meet permit and regulatory requirements. The operator collects data and wastewater samples, performs preventative maintenance according to manuals, and maintains accurate operational records. The role requires the ability to independently manage a schedule to meet site coverage requirements.

• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of wastewater experience required.
• Must be available to work weekends and holidays as requested.
• Availability for emergency situations.
• Availability for a 24‑hour on‑call rotation.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• NY Wastewater license required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.
