This position is for a Smart Plant S3 D Designer/Engineer who will prepare 3D designs associated with DOD and USAF projects. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs. This role supports the Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase of a major defense program focused on modernizing the ground-based leg of the U.S. nuclear deterrent system, replacing aging intercontinental ballistic missile infrastructure. This position is responsible for direct production of design work as well as for coordinating the scope and integration of work.

Building layout in Smart Plant S3D model environment. Modeling of piping, HVAC, and equipment in the 3D model environment. Preparation of drawings/documents for floor plans. Assist with coordination of 3D model activities, i.e. input, interference reconciliation, etc. with other physical related disciplines. Interface with stress and pipe support engineers, construction, and suppliers during the preparation of designs for the purpose of model/space control, etc. Perform coordination review of specifications and other documents prepared by others. Candidate should possess a knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, and piping codes. Hands-on experience using Smart Plant S3D and drawing generation. Knowledge & application of International Building Code, ASME B31.3 for piping, plumbing codes, and ASHRAE standards.

In this role, you will plan, develop, and review Plant Design & Piping (PD&P) work, produce drawings and documentation, and prepare design estimates for a project. You will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, and review and approve drawings, calculations, and bid summaries. You will solve complex technical issues and ensure PD&P designs comply with all regulations and standards.

  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of PD&P design estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly.
  • Participates in constructability reviews.
  • Develops designs for complete and complex PD&P engineering systems such as earthwork, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing with minimum supervision from which detailed scale models and/or construction drawings are completed.
  • Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management.
  • Produces drawings and documentation in accordance with established design and scope including design of earthwork, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing. Ensures PD&P systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Facilitates technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers, regulators).
  • Plans, develops, coordinates, and reviews design work within a small-size PD&P design work group on projects of medium size or assignments in support of global business unit.
  • Leads or administers work of PD&P designers and drafters for a business line technology to include the preparation of layouts, study drawings, detailed 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) design models and construction drawings.
  • Monitors and checks work for compliance with approved PD&P design standards to provide quality design, reliable/safe plant operation and construction economy. Ensures PD&P systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Assists in constructing detailed scale models.
  • Prepares or assists with the preparation of assigned material requisitions and bid evaluations.
  • Coordinates and interfaces as directed with the day-to-day technical work of PD&P engineers, scientists, specialists, designers, and drafters.
