Lead Secondary Engineer

Reporting to the overall project lead engineer, the incumbent will act as the technical lead for the secondary discipline, ensuring that all secondary engineering tasks are executed cost‑effectively, meet contract specifications, adhere to quality, safety and integrity standards, and are coordinated with both the remote Linxon design team and on‑site construction activities.

The position requires close collaboration during construction, providing technical support for commissioning and start‑up, handling site queries, and producing as‑built documentation.

• Lead the Linxon secondary engineering team for assigned projects.
• Manage all secondary engineering activities from project start to As‑Built, ensuring compliance with specifications, QA/QC, HSSE and integrity standards.
• Deliver secondary design packages on schedule and to quality, coordinating with internal stakeholders.
• Monitor secondary engineering costs, report risks and manage change activities.
• Coordinate secondary interfaces with other Linxon engineering disciplines (local and remote).
• Review and validate documentation from internal and external partners and sub‑suppliers.
• Complete secondary sections of general project documentation, such as the Design Intent Document.
• Manage design changes according to the contract change‑management process.
• Attend Design Review and Hazard Review meetings as required.
• Participate in technical discussions with customers and suppliers, handle site queries, and produce as‑built documentation.
• Prepare RFQs, evaluate technical content of supplier offers, and estimate budget for secondary scope during tenders.

Requirements

Linxon is seeking an experienced Lead Secondary Engineer for its Birmingham office. The role focuses on delivering complex turnkey high‑voltage GIS/AIS substation projects as part of the Linxon Engineering Department.

• Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Possess extensive experience in protection & control (P&C) substation engineering and modern P&C technology.
• Be available to travel up to 25 % of the time (domestic/international) and flexible to work in both office and construction sites.
• Exhibit excellent communication skills for interaction in a multicultural environment.
• Have expert knowledge in substation secondary design, AC & DC system calculations, signal list compilation, setting calculation, interface engineering and cable schedule preparation.
• Be proficient in MS Office and have working knowledge of MicroStation and AutoCAD.
• Be fluent in written and spoken English.
