BAU Outside Plant Engineer

Description

The OSP Engineer will support copper and fiber outside‑plant projects by estimating, analyzing, designing, and planning work while tracking budgets and ensuring compliance with company and industry standards. The role involves close coordination with municipal agencies, contractors, utilities and internal teams to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality.

• Meet with local, county, and state officials to discuss road and utility projects (travel reimbursed).
• Locate and assess Frontier facilities and evaluate project impacts with engineers.
• Develop utility relocation plans to minimize conflicts and delays.
• Design and execute OSP work orders, including service orders, subdivisions, road moves, dark fiber, and copper/fiber aerial or underground installations.
• Update design and project systems such as FROGS, CAD, Varasset, and SiteTracker.
• Coordinate make‑ready work, pole replacements, and service requests with power and communication providers.
• Prepare and submit permits to DOT, DNR, railroad, pipeline and other agencies.
• Partner with SSP contractors to ensure timely, cost‑effective construction.
• Manage plant‑damage repair requests, cable count adjustments, and related capital projects.
• Conduct site surveys and design capital projects for cell towers.
• Support technicians by investigating and resolving PUC complaints.
• Collaborate with contract engineers to align projects with business and client needs.

Requirements

• 3–5+ years in copper and fiber‑optic telecom engineering, including broadband design and OSP construction.
• 5+ years in network engineering with expertise in fiber record management, cable counts, and permitting.
• Proficient in FROGS, CAD updates, Frontier mapping, and permitting systems.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively with municipal officials, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Ability to travel as needed for meetings, inspections, and surveys.
• Must reside within one hour of listed cities in Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia.
