Distribution Field Technician

Description

• Maintain production and quality of projects by managing field data, photographs, engineering analysis, reports, and various departmental reports and databases.
• Develop a working knowledge of telephone, cable, and other communication facilities.
• Prepare and modify electrical and roadway drawings, specifications, calculations, charts, graphs, and construction drawing packages.
• Perform various field technical services for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of electrical distribution systems, including system inventories and audits, joint use management and permitting, pad-mount inspections, and ground-line pole inspections.
• Operate necessary equipment to take measurements on utility poles and mid-span facilities, perform pole inspections, and inspect and maintain pad-mount equipment.
• Collect field data utilizing laptop computers, tablet devices, GPS, and other electronic devices to input into database software as necessary.

Requirements

• Knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office applications desired.
• Skills in engineering, electrical schematics, blueprint interpretation, test equipment, and technical aptitude.
• Comfortable working outdoors.
• Must have a high school diploma.
• Entry level with an Associate's degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering.
• Acquire a working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), national engineering standards, utility construction standards, and best industry engineering practices.
• Clear and valid driver's license required.
• 1+ years of electric utility or telecommunications field experience preferred.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Present ideas effectively in formal and informal situations and communicate well in writing and orally with all levels in the organization and with outside clients and agencies.
• Proficient use of engineering software preferred.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar programs preferred.
• Familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) preferred.
