Laboratory Technician (SCA) - Military Services Group

Description

• Maintain logs, prepares Discharge Monitoring Reports, and prepares other required reports for state or internal use. Maintain Laboratory Information System on computer for both water and wastewater system.
• Collects and prepare samples for analysis within method required holding times and laboratory goals. Performs sample analysis for pH, Dissolved Oxygen, BODS, Total Suspended Solids, Ammonia, and other normal wastewater permit parameters and process control work, in accordance with Standard Methods for the examination of Water and Wastewater.
• Maintain laboratory certification requirements. Prepare and submit annual Laboratory Performance evaluation to state agency.
• Understand and follow all QA/QC protocols to ensure all data generated meets EPA and accrediting authority standards and laboratory requirements.
• Maintain laboratory equipment in accordance with regulations and industry standards. Order and manage laboratory supplies / inventory including glassware, reagents, samples preparation supplies, and laboratory equipment and tools. Follows Company's Environmental, Health, and Safety Policies.
• Prepare and maintain accurate paperwork such as records, logs, orders, surveys and routine reports as directed.
• Participate in internal and external audits including preparation and follow-up.

Requirements

• Good quality control skills (e.g., technical, problem solving, attention to detail).
• Must possess and keep current minimum Certification.
• Good verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer literacy skills including familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, etc.
• Ability to preparation of samples in accordance with regulations.
• Must possess a valid state driver's license
• Possesses a thorough knowledge of all the equipment in the water treatment system.
• Technical training equivalent or additional experience may be substituted for Associates Degree.
• 3 years of lab experience
• Able to perform accurate mathematical calculations related to this position.
• Must be able to lift 35 pounds, unassisted.
• The possession a Water Treatment Plant operator certification desired
• Effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations and customers.
• Minimum of a B.S. or B.A. degree in chemistry or closely related science curriculum from an accredited college or university plus a minimum of six months laboratory experience in analytical chemistry, or a two-year associate degree from an accredited college, university, or technical institute in chemistry technology, environmental sciences, or closely related science curriculum plus a minimum of two years’ experience in analytical chemistry. Non-degree supervisors must have at least six years laboratory experience in analytical chemistry.
• Knowledge of the techniques, equipment and materials used in the mechanical maintenance and repair of related equipment and systems.
• Must be physically able to complete necessary tasks while wearing an approved respirator as required, as some required work may have potential for exposure to harmful contaminants, environments, noise, etc.

• Employee will be required to work indoors and periodically outdoors during seasonal heat and cold or other adverse weather conditions.
• Good interpersonal skills (e.g., cooperation, teamwork, tact/diplomacy).
• Ability to conduct chemical and/or microbiological tests and data analysis related to wastewater analysis.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
