Senior Architect

Description

The Senior Architect plays a key leadership role within the Architectural Design Section, overseeing project teams and ensuring high-quality design solutions for new construction and renovation projects across transit facilities. This position is responsible for delivering technically accurate, safe, constructible, maintainable, cost-effective, and timely architectural designs that support transit operations and long-term infrastructure needs.

• Create work plans, coordinate inputs, and assign tasks to team members.
• Maintain active registration with the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA).
• Coordinate and justify anticipated contract changes.
• Reviewing development proposals to assess potential impacts on standards.
• Provide construction-phase support, including reviewing shop drawings and submittals.
• Support updates to architectural standards as assigned.
• Perform regular field inspections and prepare deficiency reports.
• Lead, coordinate, and review the work of Design Architects and other assigned staff.
• Provide full architectural design services for transit-related facilities.
• Reviewing and commenting on consultant and Engineering Division design documents.
• Prepare and oversee code compliance reviews for both new and existing facilities.
• Conduct design and development reviews, including:
• Review, approve, and sign off on architectural documentation as required.
• Lead the development and preparation of complete contract documentation.
• Develop technical design reports, including schematic and preliminary design packages.
• Conduct site reviews and submit reports in accordance with building code and permit requirements.

Requirements

Additional Requirement: Consultants must use their own personal computers

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, plus a minimum of 15 years of relevant architectural experience, including demonstrated work on transit-related facilities.
• Full membership with the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) is mandatory.
• Proven experience leading complex, multi-disciplinary design projects.
