The Director of Production is tasked with ensuring exceptional execution of construction documentation (CD) production and QA/QC systems to meet schedule, quality, and budget targets. This role leads the production and QA/QC teams across all design‑build projects from design through permitting and construction, driving operational efficiency so that drawing production, coordination, and reviews are completed with maximum effectiveness and minimal staff hours. The Director also champions BIM, Revit, and documentation standards while integrating AI‑driven tools to support Blue Heron’s vision of creating the future of Home.
Reporting directly to the Vice President of Architecture, the Director drives operational integration across teams by implementing standards, process improvements, and lessons learned. They ensure alignment with Blue Heron’s brand identity, design philosophy, and client experience expectations, and balance workloads and planning across production and QA/QC teams to meet deadlines and priorities.
The Director leads the production and QA/QC teams to achieve drawing efficiency, accuracy, clear design intent, and field‑ready solutions. They create, manage, and enforce standardized processes for construction documentation, maintain rigorous QA/QC to reduce RFIs, construction issues, and rework, and ensure CD production meets schedule and budget objectives.
Responsibility for BIM documentation standards includes developing, enforcing, and implementing workflows that ensure consistency across all projects and phases. The Director oversees BIM 360 setup, model management, and team compliance, while owning BIM master/template configuration and staying actively engaged in project production to maintain strong technical proficiency. Scalable, repeatable documentation strategies are championed to improve speed, reduce rework, and enable efficient onboarding and training.
The role involves researching, testing, and implementing innovative tools and technologies, including AI, to support design, production, and construction workflows. The Director develops an AI‑integrated Documents Resource Database that consolidates specifications, community criteria, construction detail requirements, permit set requirements, and company Design Standards, and maintains the Blue Heron Best Practice Library for continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
Collaboration with cross‑functional teams such as Design, Construction, Purchasing, Sales, and Interior Design ensures delivery of necessary documentation for project success. The Director works closely with construction teams and trade partners to refine specifications, detailing, and assemblies, improving constructability, reducing RFIs, and increasing field alignment, while evaluating and recommending specification packages to stay ahead of industry trends.
The Director oversees the development of a lessons‑learned database that captures insights from field conditions, RFIs, change orders, and completed projects. Architectural oversight on marquee projects is translated into refined standards, specifications, and design philosophies that elevate company‑wide performance, fostering a culture of empowerment, accountability, and continuous process improvement within the production and QA/QC teams.
Key performance indicators focus on schedule adherence, work‑plan alignment, reduction of RFIs and extra purchase orders, production efficiency measured by staff hours per project phase, and consistent compliance with BIM, documentation, AI, and best‑practice standards across all projects.
Candidates must hold a professional degree in Architecture (licensed architect preferred) and possess at least 10 years of architectural experience, including 5+ years focused on residential construction documentation. A strong understanding of local and federal building codes, NFPA, ADA requirements, and familiarity with Las Vegas‑area permit processes is required, along with general knowledge of construction costs and value engineering techniques.
The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, capable of managing multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment, and possesses excellent organization, communication, and presentation skills. Strong leadership, cross‑functional collaboration, analytical abilities, and a professional demeanor are essential, as is the capacity to set priorities, meet timelines, and maintain high standards of accuracy.
Technical proficiency includes primary expertise in Revit, with experience in AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar CAD/BIM programs, and routine use of Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam. Familiarity with BIM 360 or comparable collaborative model management platforms and an interest in AI‑driven tools and digital workflows are also required.
