Senior Project Engineer, Control Systems

Description

In this position you will develop new control systems for a diverse client base, covering xEV powertrains, power electronics, motors, drives, engines, transmissions, battery management, advanced thermal, and fuel‑cell systems. The Control and Electronics group handles everything from core algorithm design to fully validated production control software, including safety‑critical applications.

• Develop control solutions: specify requirements, design algorithms, select components, implement, calibrate, and validate.
• Provide technical leadership to team members delivering control solutions.
• Supervise junior team members on assigned tasks.
• Coordinate with wider team to organise and deliver project activities.
• Manage verification and validation via software, Model‑in‑Loop, Hardware‑in‑Loop, and physical testing.
• Support systems engineering, electrical integration, and communications integration for the engineering team.
• Create dynamic models based on system dynamics across multiple physical domains.
• Interface directly with clients and suppliers on technical issues.
• Report technical status internally and to customers.
• Ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
• Travel for customer meetings, on‑site development support, and visits to other Ricardo sites.

Requirements

• Hold a degree in Engineering, Control, Electrical, Electronics, or a related field.
• Demonstrated success deploying controls for complex systems.
• Experience providing technical leadership to engineering project teams.
• Strong grasp of physical principles and control techniques.
• Fluent in model‑based development languages, especially MATLAB‑Simulink.
• Programming experience for microcontrollers or PLC controls (desired).
• Experience developing and validating controls for production programs (desired).
