The Journey Line Mechanic role combines the responsibilities of an Apprentice Line Mechanic Primary with crew‑lead duties on overhead and underground (URD) projects limited to 600 V. The position is part of the Overhead Progression Program, which requires successful testing and progression to higher classifications. The mechanic directs a single crew while maintaining high standards of productivity, quality, and safety.
Key duties include leading the crew in construction and maintenance activities, coordinating with other utilities and contractors, and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and feeder maps to determine work sequences. The mechanic performs work on energized circuits up to 13 kV under supervision, handles switching, phasing, and grounding, and investigates service failures to restore power. Additional responsibilities cover installing and maintaining equipment such as capacitors, regulators, and transformers, conducting splicing and terminations, and completing necessary paperwork and reports.
Candidates must have demonstrated experience as an Apprentice Line Mechanic Primary and a solid working knowledge of transmission and distribution specifications, safety regulations, and construction drawing interpretation. Required licenses include a valid Class A restricted CDL, a Class 7‑D operating engineer license, and MDOT flagger certification. Strong verbal and written communication skills, proficiency with information technology, and a willingness to work regular overtime and be available for call‑outs are essential.
Compensation includes an hourly rate of $55.69 (subject to qualifications) with a 4 % annual bonus eligibility, 401(k) matching, and a comprehensive benefits suite.
