Associate Director Civil Engineering - Data Centres

Description

The Associate Director – Civil Engineering will join the Civil Engineering Business Unit to provide technical leadership for data centre projects across the EMEA region. Working with multidisciplinary teams of ground, structural, mechanical, electrical, process engineers, architects, and project managers, the role supports both UK‑based and international portfolios. It also serves as an ambassador for AECOM’s data centre capabilities within the hyperscale and co‑location markets.

• Lead civil engineering technical direction and design governance for data centre and critical infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with AECOM standards and regulations.
• Review, approve, and develop buildable civil designs for site development, earthworks, drainage, pavements, access, and utility infrastructure.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams—including ground, structural, mechanical, electrical, and environmental specialists—to deliver data centre projects across the UK and globally.
• Support client engagement, business development, asset reviews, and expansion strategies while mentoring junior civil engineers.

Requirements

• Hold a civil engineering degree with a strong foundation in infrastructure design for data centre clients.
• Be a Chartered Engineer (CEng MICE or equivalent) or operate at chartered level with demonstrated professional standing.
• Possess proven experience leading complex civil infrastructure projects in data centres, mission‑critical, or large‑scale development sectors.
• Have working knowledge of planning, highways, drainage, utility approvals and experience liaising with local authorities and utility providers.
• Demonstrate design‑lead or technical authority experience within large multidisciplinary teams, providing governance and risk management.
• Understand BIM modelling and collaborative platforms.
