Airfield Engineering Associate I

Description

The associate will use AutoCAD daily to produce geometric design plans for runways, taxiways, aprons, bituminous and concrete pavements, as well as stormwater and utility infrastructure. Projects are performed under the guidance of senior engineers, and occasional travel (<25%) is required to coordinate with airports, airlines, the FAA, and construction management.

• Design airport runways, taxiways, aprons, and related pavement structures using AutoCAD
• Create geometric plans and detailed drawings for bituminous and concrete pavements
• Develop stormwater management and utility infrastructure designs for aviation projects
• Coordinate with FAA, airports, airlines, and construction teams (up to 25% travel)
• Collaborate with senior engineers and multidisciplinary team members to deliver projects
• Maintain high accuracy and triple‑check all engineering drawings before submission

Requirements

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET‑accredited program and be eager to learn new software platforms like AutoCAD. Critical thinking, a collaborative mindset, and meticulous attention to detail are essential; the role values team‑based problem solving and triple‑checking of drawings. Completion of the Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) or Engineering Internship exam, or intent to achieve it within six months, is strongly preferred.

• Hold a BS in civil engineering from an ABET‑accredited university
• Demonstrate critical thinking and willingness to ask questions when uncertain
• Exhibit strong teamwork skills and experience in collaborative environments
• Preferably possess or intend to obtain Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification within six months
