  • Develops schedule for power purchases, sales and interchanges for up to 6 days.
  • Maintains and updates operating diagrams as required.
  • Starts and stops generators from supervisory console.
  • Operates SCADA system to provide electric system control.
  • Maintains shift logs and records all necessary operating data.
  • Operates supervisory control equipment, radio and telephone.
  • Maintains economic operation and service continuity of the Chugach Electric system.
  • Prepares and issues switching orders and clearances.
  • Calculates the loading of generators, transformers and lines using megawatts, megavars, voltage, amperes and power factors.
  • Accepts trouble calls, obtains and dispatches crew to make repairs.

  • Understanding of coordination of system loads and resources.
  • Basic understanding of economic dispatch of mixed generation resources.
  • Ability to understand, read and speak English, to give and receive orders and reports over radio or telephonic circuits.
  • Vision sufficient to read data displayed at consoles and mimic panels; not color blind to read and green, as determined by the Association physician.
  • 2 years of recent, satisfactory performance as a power dispatcher in generation dispatch, or
  • Hearing sufficient to meet the requirements of the job, as determined by the preemployment physical.
  • Working knowledge of switching techniques and procedures.
  • Five years of recent, satisfactory performance as a power dispatcher at an interconnected electrical utility OR advancement from the position of Power Dispatcher Trainee at Chugach.
  • Understanding of electrical fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated interest in Power Dispatching as a career as evidenced by a history of a willingness to learn and a dependable work history.
  • Demonstrated adaptability to shift work.
  • EE degree or AA degree with course work in computers, math or engineering and two years working at an electric utility ;or similar military experience in power systems; or graduate of accredited high school or equivalent and four years of electric utility experience.
  • 2 years of recent, satisfactory performance as a power dispatcher in transmission dispatch
  • Ability to read and comprehend electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Have experience, based on the requirements above, in one of the following classifications: Instrument & Control Technician, Maintenance/Plant Operator, Electronic Technician, Journeyman Lineman, Field Inspector, Relay/Control Wiring Technician, Control Wiring Technician, Electrician, Meter Technician, Meter Tester, or Distribution Designer. Or, have four years of electrical utility experience, with experience in one of the following:
  • Ability to exercise mature judgement, to make decisions, to communicate well and to consider consequences of actions taken.
  • External candidates must pass a basic competency test.
  • Basic understanding of the operation of an electric utility system.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • EE degree; OR AA degree with course work in computers, math or engineering and two years utility experience; OR accredited high school diploma (or equivalent) and four years of utility experience.
  • Vision sufficient to read data displayed at consoles and mimic panels; not color blind to red and green, as determined by the preemployment physical.
  • 2 years of recent, satisfactory performance as a power dispatcher in distribution dispatch, or
  • Knowledge of Relay Protection Systems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers in high stress situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in frequent high stress situations.
  • Basic understanding of electrical fundamentals.
  • Ability to adapt to shift work.
