Description

The Project Accountant works closely with project leadership and the accounting department to maintain financial oversight for commercial mechanical construction projects.

• Verify subcontractor licenses, business permits, and maintain up‑to‑date Certificates of Insurance and signed agreements before issuance.
• Keep organized, audit‑ready records of Master Service Agreements and subcontractor documentation.
• Monitor project budgets, flag over/under‑budget issues, and ensure accurate invoice coding against cost codes.
• Provide cost‑to‑complete forecasts, track commitments, and manage change orders (SCOs, PCOs, PCCOs) with detailed logs.
• Issue back charges to subcontractors when required and confirm purchase orders before processing invoices.
• Prepare and submit monthly billings to general contractors, aligning forecasts with field progress and contractual terms.
• Review subcontractor pay applications for accuracy, percentage complete, and approved change orders; resolve discrepancies with accounting.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with project teams, subcontractors, and accounting staff to support financial coordination.

Requirements

Candidates must have at least three years of construction or project accounting experience, preferably in commercial mechanical, HVAC, or plumbing. Proficiency with construction project management and accounting platforms such as Procore or Sage Intacct, strong attention to detail, and excellent organizational and communication skills are required.
