Lead and independently organize work plans, design tasks, and deliverables for medium- to high-complexity tunneling and underground projects.
Review and supervise the work of intermediate engineers and mentor interns, especially on numerical modelling tasks.
Contribute geotechnical and structural expertise for underground components on major water conveyance projects, including long microtunnels drives and deep shafts.
Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of AECOM’s tunneling standards, tools, and best practices.
Coordinate multidisciplinary design inputs, including tunnelling, geotechnical, hydrogeological, structural, civil, utilities, hydraulic, traffic, environmental, procurement, cost, and schedule disciplines.
Design SOE systems for deep shafts, pump stations, portals, cut-and-cover structures, and deep excavations.
Provide technical input for tunnel and shafts design methodologies, means and methods, and proposal development.
Collaborate closely with internal disciplines, external partners, and clients to support successful project delivery.
Participate in constructability reviews, value engineering workshops, and risk management activities.
This role will function as a Deputy Design Manager, supporting the Design Manager in the planning, coordination, and delivery of multidisciplinary design packages for a deep sanitary sewer tunnel system within a dense urban corridor.
Provide expert guidance in soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and ground–structure interaction to multidisciplinary project teams.
Design tunnels using MTBM and SEM/NATM.
Prepare contract documents, design reports, technical specifications, and drawing packages.

BA/BS + 6 years or more of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Familiarity with water and wastewater design standards in the Region of Peel, City of Toronto, York Region, and Halton Region is considered an asset.
Proficiency in analytical and numerical methods for underground works, including 2D/3D modelling.
Master’s Degree in Geotechnical or Structural Engineering.
Strong knowledge of geology, hydrogeology, rock mechanics, and ground behavior.
Hold a P.Eng. in ON or have the ability to obtain it within one year from starting of employment.
Ability to work independently and make informed technical decisions with minimal supervision.
Strong teamwork, coordination, and client-facing skills.
Experience with design management of water conveyance projects.
Strong technical capabilities in underground design and numerical analysis.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical concepts clearly.
The position is suited to a technically strong engineer with proven experience in design delivery, coordination, and risk management for major municipal infrastructure programs.
Experience with both large-diameter (5m+) tunneling and trenchless technologies.
Technical expertise in TBM tunneling, SEM/NATM, shaft design, ground improvement, and deep excavation support systems.
6 years of experience with design management of water conveyance tunneling projects.
6+ years of experience in tunnels and microtunnels design, deep shafts, underground structures, and geotechnical/structural analysis for major infrastructure programs (highly preferred).
